The World Lost A Very Good Woman

At approximately 4:30 A.M. on November 17th, 2010, Margaret Edythe Smith Banasky passed away from a short battle with Bladder Cancer. Known as just "Marge" to many of her friends and family, Margaret joined her husband Gerald "Pete" Banasky in heaven.

Folks, the reason I am blogging about "Marge" is because she is my grandmother. But I never did call her Marge, Grandma or Margaret. She was simply known as Nan, Nana or Nanny, and on one and only one occasion, Old Fart.

I don't cry a lot in front of people I don't know. But, when Nan passed, I hugged everyone I knew, and everyone I didn't know.
My mom instilled a lot of wisdom into me, some forced with an ire hand, most with love and compassion. One of the greatest things she told me was that the last words I have in a conversation should ALWAYS be happy, loving words, because it may be the last time I talk to them.
I went to bed about midnight on the 16th, and before I went to bed, I told Nan that I loved her, and that I would be okay. With her being a mother, I knew that I didn't want her to leave this world worrying about me. I had gotten all of my crying and frustrations out earlier, so all I wanted to tell her was that I love her and that I will be okay, and also that she could leave when she was ready.
I would like to thank some people that helped me through this. First and foremost, my father in heaven, for making this battle short lived. My mother, who let me cry on her shoulder, my supervisors at work, for understanding my situation and also my coworkers for their sympathy. My friend Melissa, she was the first one to ask me if I was alright. My friend Kayli, she has been my buddy for many years and, many times I had taken her for granted, but she showed me true love and compassion.
Most of all, I would like to thank my Aunt, Georgina Thayne. When Nan had her stroke in 2005, George, as we called her, quit her job so she could stay with Nana and take care of her full time. She and her whole family have given of themselves on many countless occasions without expecting any compensation for it. If you are wondering what it is to be christ-like, then go to West Valley and see my Aunt.

I would like to thank Pastor Rob of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Kearns, UT for allowing us to use the fellowship hall and chapel for the memorial service and luncheon.

I would like to tell everyone that if they would like to help, they could make a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

In closing, Please tell everyone how much they mean to you.

Blogging Update

Well, it's been a while since my last post, and i have a ton of things on my mind, a few I will tell you and, for personal reasons, a few I won't.

Saturday evening, I was going through some things left in my Grandparents roll top desk. I came upon a few of my Grandad's(as we called him) off color jokes. He was a hayseed cowboy from Neligh, Nebraska, so I don't hold it against him, because, truth be told, my sense of humor is quite like his. I also found a letter he wrote to his mother when he was in school. Oh, how I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when he was my age. Then, as I was putting the jokes back in the drawer, I came upon something that almost brought me to tears immediately.

I found my Grandma's obituary and her funeral program. She passed away 2 years ago on the 22nd. We laid her in the ground on the 24th. My Grandmother was a very special lady, you could even find a few that would refer to her as a saint. She was the perfect Grandmother in my eyes. I remember the countless times that the family and I had made the 3 hour trip to Twin Falls to see the people I called "Grandma and Grandad. (note: later on in the final years of her life, Grandma was referred to as Agnes, Grams, Lady, etc.) Grams would always have either homemade cakemix cookies or duncan hines brownies made for me. She also always had a shoulder for me to cry on. Lately, I wish I had that shoulder back. My grandma was ans still is my hero. She was taken in 2008 from Pancreatic Cancer. All throughout the ordeal, not once did she cry, not once did she bitch, moan OR complain. She WAS the epitome of fighter.

Right now, the songs "Fight Like A Girl" by Bomshel and "Sissy's Song" by Alan Jackson bring me to tears when I hear them because of the meaning in them. Those that knew her, knew she was a very kind individual, and those that didn't know her came to know her very quick. She used to tell me that you can do anything with a little bit of duct tape, bailing wire and clothespins, which later turned into Grandma's Holy Trinity. We have a giant clothespin hanging by the kitchen window in her honor.

Well, I have to go back to work, so I will tell you more about her later.

Grams, you forever will be missed and loved.

Jekks County Spotlight: Edythe K***

Ok, Colt Ford, as much as I love ya, we've got other people to showcase. I've been doing some thinking, and I think we need to showcase some of Dr. Loves fam-damily.

So, first we get to see Dr. Love's Most Important Woman...so far.

That would be his mommy, and for honorable purposes we will call her by her first name, that is, what you guys call her, Edythe. To me, she's "Mommy."
Born in 1960...okay guys stop snickering, she's not that old. Anyways, born in 1960 to one
Gerald "Pete" Banasky and one Margaret "Maggie" Banasky, Edythe was one of three girls. You can read about her past on her blog, A Day in the life of Edythe.
Now to zap forward to 1986.
After trying to make a perfect child in 1982, and only getting LokiDude , in November of 1986, Edythe, after birthing Dr. Love, said to her husband Mike "OMG, we have God's gift to women now!"
PSYCH!
No, that's not how it happened. I am god's gift to women, but it's not about me, it's about mommy.
So, almost 300 years later, Edythe has graduated high school, gotten married to a man who looks exactly like me, had two sons(Dr. Love being the better of the two), graduated from college like a billion years later, and is secretly Wonder Woman.

So, Wonder Wom...I mean Edythe, this Root Brewski's for you.(She can't have any of Dr. Love's home brew, she's Mormon.)

St. Louis Power Company

Once again, the world has shown me that it can change in a night. Yesterday, I had an overall good day. I had pizza and Pepsi for lunch, and I got my new cell phone after work.
The change you ask?

I woke up this morning and turned on the t.v. to watch a little of Reba. A commercial came on and I flipped to one of the national news channels...Yes, Dr. Love likes to keep himself educated on the current events of the world. Anyways, it was breaking news.

Some idiot madman had taken a gun, went to a St. Louis power company and opened fire on innocent people. I do not know if this individual was an ex-employee, if they had a mental condition or did it just for the hell of it.

I am a gun lover, and I fully support the 2nd Amendment, and it REALLY gets under my skin when someone takes something I love and screws it up. Now, because of this and the incident at Fort Hood, I'm probably gonna have to go through a set of papers as thick as the bible to get ammunition for my firearms.

I fully believe in gun control, and I believe in and follow the rules of firearms. To everyone that hates guns...Some of you have a mindset that anyone who owns a gun is a madman. I will respect your opinion, but realize that this gives me full rights to believe that since you own a motor vehicle, you are a madman.

The point is that GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, THE ONE THAT PULLS THE TRIGGER IS THE CULPRIT. The same goes for vehicles, THE CAR DOESN'T KILL THE LITTLE INNOCENT CHILD, IT'S THE MORON BEHIND THE WHEEL.

Now I know that someone is bound to say that guns have been known to go off for no reason at the time, but upon further investigation, the cause was a malfunction in the weapon due to lack of maintenance and/or abuse.

What I am trying to voice here is my thought, if you are so pissed off at the world about something, don't reach for a gun or for your keys. Go blog about it, or talk to your family about it. When you are cooled off, play with your family. Be thankful that you had the control to keep from screwing your life up.

God bless and good day

Dr. Love

P.S. Here at the Rag, our prayers go out to the families of those affected by the St. Louis and Fort Hood tragedies.

Jekks County Spotlight: Colt Ford

Well, I decided to start a new feature here at the Rag. Its called the Jekks County Spotlight, and it will feature anything that I find that I think is more than "Rag Worthy."

My first feature is a new up and coming artist that is crossing the border that separates Country Music and Hip-hop. His name is Colt Ford. He wrote the song "Buck 'Em", which was adopted by the Professional Bull Riders Inc. as its new anthem. Soon after, Ford made his musical and video debut on national television at the VERSUS Invitational Pro Bull Riding Competition in Madison Square Garden in January 2007.

The Spotlight is shining on his video "Trash In My Trailer."
